KMC: Can you tell the readers about the beginning of Totalselfhatred? When did Totalselfhatred start and how etc..?

N & A: A. and C. found out that they had the same vision about band fully dedicated to desperate, dark, melancholy soundscapes, that´s where it all started.

KMC: Were there any influences in the beginning?

N & A: Influences has and always will be life.

KMC: Where did the band name came up?

N & A: It has about a thousand meanings, depending on view and interpreatation, that´s just how we wanted it to be, it´s just as hard to put to words as feelings are and undefined feeling is what this wordcreation represents.

KMC: Where does Totalselfhatred found it source to inspiration?

N & A: It is the same thing with influences. Inspiration comes from the life that surrounds us.

KMC: Do you consider Totalselfhatred as a 'Depressive Black Metal' band or just a 'Black Metal' band?

N & A: I personally think that it is useless to label us in any genre. We make our music straight from our hearts.

KMC: You have been compared to such bands as Forgotten Tomb and Shining. What's your opinion about that?

N & A: I have no problems with that. Both are great bands and we have been an opening act for Shining in summer 2010. It was great.


TOTAL SELF-HATRED

KMC: Totalselfhatred demo (promo) came out 2006. Was the demo made only for searching a right label for releasing future Totalselfhatred material?

N & A: Yes, the promo was meant for the record labels only.

KMC: Were there any other labels interested in releasing Totalselfhatred? I mean before Ordo Decimus Peccatum Records, what released Totalselfhated's debut full-lenght.

N & A: Yes there were several others. I am not going to give any names but none of them gave the same kind of deal as Ordo Decimus Peccatum.

KMC: Debut full-lenght was released 2008 by Ordo Decimus Peccatum Records. How did you end up releasing the album through Ordo Decimus Peccatum? Did the label found you or did you found the label?

N & A: We sent the promo to Osmose Productions and through that label Ordo Decimus Peccatum found us. Offered us a deal that we just couldn't refuse.

KMC: How does the full-lenght sound when you are listening it today. Do you get any flashbacks, for example from the recording sessios?

N & A: There is some memories on certain songs that rise up whenever i hear it. Not necessarily good memories but something from the heart.

KMC: How was the recording sessions? Was it easy or hard?

N & A: Now to think of that was easy. Although we searched the sound for three weeks i guess. There was some technical problems of course but that's something that belongs to recording sessions.

KMC: Can you tell me about the song 'Ruoska' (taken from the debut album). What's it about?

N & A: It´s about going on and developing your life even though it might be tough at times, trying to learn from your mistakes and mishaps. It´s also about that life doesn`t care about your complaints just keeps on "whipping" (ruoska=whip) you forwards.

KMC: How would you descride Totalselfhatred as a live band?

N & A: We`re trying to create an intensive atmosphere, which we hope will carry to the audience.

KMC: Totalselfhatred did a tour called 'Suddenly Hurtful Silence Tour' in 2009. There were two bands playing with you known as Hypothermia and Silent Leges Inter Arma. The tour was mostly made in Germany. How did it go? How was the live response comparing to Finnsih audience?

N & A: The tour went well. Silent Leges Inter Arma and Hypothermia guys were great and very co operative. There were some bad luck on tour also but nothing dramatic. We were quite shocked about how many people came to see our show. More than i could have imagined. The responde compared to finish and abroad is quite the same.

KMC: There are two members in Totalselhatred also involved with a Finnish BM band Horna. Have there ever been any schedule problems with Horna and Totalselfhatred? I mean both bands are active, playing shows and recording albums etc.

N & A: One had already left Horna before TotalSelfHatred started to play actively live and the other one left some time later, so there`s no scheduling problems.

KMC: Totalselfhatred drummer known as 'T' left the band this year. What happened?

N & A: Long story short. T. was sharing different kind of vision about the music so the decision for the departure was mutual.


APOCALYPSE IN YOUR HEART

KMC: You are now working with a new album called 'Apocalypse In Your Heart'. Can you tell me something about it? Is it much different comparing to your debut?

N & A: It is somewhat different compared to first release. But still you can regonize it as TSH.

KMC: And what label is releasing 'Apocalypse In Your Heart'?

N & A: Osmose Productions.

KMC: Will it be out in CD or LP or both?

N & A: I guess both formats.

KMC: Any release dates planned?

N & A: No.

First of all.. I don't like downloading music (+ i don't like music streaming services for example Spotify). Why? I like my records as records, not as files. But.. There's a lot of limited edition sold out BM c-casette demo releases not availabe anymore. Most BM demo releases i would like to own, were sold out back in the days. So, only place to hear them, and yes, fucking downloading them, is the internet. So, i decided i will add some selected download links in these pages. Pure Evil interview

EVIL RESURRECTED

KMC: First of all. Can you tell me what Pure Evil is about? History?

Kryth: I started Pure Evil in late 2006 as a channel where I could use all the ideas I had in my head. I had always wanted to make death metal, but hadn’t had the opportunity to make anything into reality before. Also I was starting to derive song writing-wise from the way we wanted to do things in Korgonthurus and it was finally time to start a “band” of my own.

KMC: Where does the name 'Pure Evil' come?

Kryth: I tried for a long time to think of a name that would say everything about the music I would make and Pure Evil was chosen after many others were discarded.

KMC: Will Pure Evil be a one band in the future? Forever?

Kryth: Never say never, or forever, but I’m quite damn sure that there won’t be any new permanent members in Pure Evil. I will at some point find a session drummer to record an album that was written back in 2006. I don’t have the drumming skills needed to play the songs, I can’t record it without a drummer who knows what to do behind the kit.

Other than that, I’ll continue on my own. I have zero needs in bringing other people along, other than to help with some small things. Like the solo in Chapter III’s Hypocrisy cover.

KMC: Have Pure Evil ever played live? If not, will you ever play live?


Kryth: Never has and never will.

KMC: Is there any musical acts that have inspired you when you began to write songs for Pure Evil?

Kryth: There are too many to mention just a few. I draw influences from everything. Not only music, as I can find a very simple sound very inspiring.

KMC: What about the lyrical side. What are Pure Evil's songs about?

Kryth: Chapters I-III have dealt about my own views on life. Chapters I & II were concentrated more on the primal need to humiliate human dignity and praise the ugly sides of life as I see them, but Chapter III is very personal and every lyric shed light to what I am and what I wish to be.

KMC: Who's responsible for the Pure Evil logo?

Kryth: It was done by Shadowolf of Unholy Art Designs.

KMC: In your MySpace page it says "Pure Evil's music will always evolve and is not meant to stay stale and restricted to only one, or few types of expressions". Does this mean that future Pure Evil releases could be something other than metal, or will metal always a part of Pure Evils music?

Kryth: I won’t say that every Pure Evil release will be totally different, but most will sound nothing like the other. Pure Evil is a channel to express myself and do what ever I want to. Probably not all will be metal, but not any will be pop either. There are many dark ways to make music than only metal, or music.

TOWARDS HELL

KMC: Pure Evil's first demo 'Chapter I: Blood' was released 2007 through Blood & Soil Productions. How do you feel about the release today? Was it a good / right beginning for Pure Evil?

Kryth: It was a great beginning, although the release was supposed to be a full length. I was recovering from a wrist injury and the drum recordings were a total disaster.

KMC: Blood & Soil Productions seems to be a very small record company? Only C-Cassette & CD-r releases? Was the first demo a very limited edition release?

Kryth: At first it hadn’t any limitations, but I’ve recently decided to stop selling it after I run out of the copies I have made at the moment. There are still some left and it will be limited to 80 copies.

KMC: 'Chapter II: Sacrifice' is Pure Evil's first full-lengtt, released by Swedish record label known as Satanic Propaganda (also released albums from Beastcraft, Kill, Hell Militia among others). This was the first time when there was a couple of Finnish songs featured in the album known as 'Luuta ja Nahkaa' & 'Malja Saatanalle'. What inspired you to do songs in Finnish too?

Kryth: Those two Finnish lyrics fitted the best to the album’s concept. I actually prefer Finnish over English, but some lyrics just simply don’t work in Finnish. When I started writing lyrics for Pure Evil they just came out in English, but now I’ve concentrated on Finnish lyrics again.

KMC: Is the label Satanic Propaganda still active? There's no proper info in the internet (i don't trust in forum sites).

Kryth: To my knowledge SPR stopped its activities some years ago. Haven’t been in contact with Andreas, so don’t know about the reasons.

KMC: How was the feedback for your debut album?

Kryth: Don’t remember seeing reviews of it that much. It’s a horrible album, so it’s just better not to know how much people hate it, haha!

KMC: After the debut, Pure Evil did a split ep with Anal Blasphemy called 'Pure Blasphemy', released by Hammer Of Hate. Where did the idea came to do a split release with Anal Blasphemy?

Kryth: I and Molestor Kadotus thought that it would be an appropriate collaboration. I’m a big fan of Anal Blasphemy and it was an honour to do the split release.

KMC: After the split ep, Pure Evil's second full lenght 'Chapter III: Dedication ' was released, also through Hammer Of Hate. Has the label been the right label for Pure Evil?

Kryth: They do great work and are very dedicated in running the label the best way possible! I can’t complain about anything as they’ve helped me out so much. I’m in eternal gratitude to them!

KMC: How do you feel about the album yourself?

Kryth: It’s the album I’ve always wanted to make and I’m totally satisfied with everything about it, except for the drums production, which is quite messed up. The album has elements from the course of my life and it’s sort of a “best of” of what I’d want to listen myself.

KMC: How was the recording process for 'Chapter III: Dedication'?

Kryth: It was a long and at times a very frustrating experience. From the drum recordings to the final mixing it took me over a year and a half to complete. The drum recordings were done the wrong way, I had recording equipment failures and my guitar broke in the middle of the recordings, but I still managed to get everything sorted out and triumphed! The album sounds perfect considering my knowledge of recording and mixing when I began the project.

KMC: I noticed that you mixed the album? Do you have any mixing backround / history?

Kryth: I’ve only mixed my own bands. The first one I did was the Korgonthurus ep in 2005 and after that a few others besides the Pure Evil releases. I don’t think I’m very good, but mostly I’m satisfied with the work I make.

KMC: Have you mixed all the Pure Evil albums?

Kryth: Yes and as long as I’m satisfied with my work I’ll continue doing everything alone. The only part I’ve had outside help with the production was with mastering.

KMC: Is there any albums you would like to share with us that has that ideal sound you mostly prefer?

Kryth: Again, just too many to name just a few. And the production depends totally on moods. Some excellently produced albums sound just wrong when something raw is needed and vice versa.

KMC: In 'Chapter III: Dedication' album there is a Hypocrisy cover 'Impotent God' (gotta love the song title). Are you a big Hypocrisy fan?

Kryth: Yes, I’ve been a fan for well over 10 years now and it was about time to pay tribute to them. I re-entered the studio a week later after the initial drum recording sessions and recorded Impotent god.

KMC: In your MySpace blog it says that Pure Evil's next album 'Chapter IV' should be ready for summer. Is it?

Kryth: Drums and rhythm guitars were recorded in spring/summer, but the recording sessions are on hold at the moment due to total lack of time. It’ll be out when it’s released.

And just to avoid misconceptions. “Chapter IV” is only the working title for the album, as I haven’t picked a name for it yet and it won’t continue the “Chapter trilogy.”

KMC: Can you reveal any details about the music in the upcoming album?

Kryth: All I’ll say about it is that it will be something totally different than what I’ve done before with Pure Evil.

KMC: Will it be released by Hammer Of Hate or other label?

Kryth: Time will tell. Details will be clearer when the album is finished.

KMC: Will Pure Evil's future releases be also known as 'chapters'?

Kryth: I might do one more Chapter, but for now, no. I’ll continue with something totally different at least for a while.

KMC: What does Black Metal mean to you?

Kryth: Black metal is an instrument for worship. A way to express your views and dedication.

KMC: What do you think about Black Metal in these days? Music and the scene?

Kryth: I’m getting so fucking sick and tired of all this emo-post-“black”metal shit, that’s the hottest thing around now! There are just simply too many bands around these days that I’ve lost most of my interest in keeping up to date with the “scene.”

KMC: What about Death Metal? What is Death Metal to you?

Kryth: Death metal is mostly only music. Nowdays death metal is mostly just to show how amazingly well you can play your instrument. I do enjoy many new mathdeath and brutal death metal bands, but am not interested in their views, as they’re usually about political correctness, vegetarianism, or just meaningless gore.

KMC: Any Finnish bands you would like to salute?

Kryth: Terveisiä Anal Blasphemylle.

Sacrilegious Impalement interview

BEGINNING

KMC: Sacrilegious Impalement was formed in 2006. How did it all begin? Who started the band?

Impaler Von Bastard: The first formation of the band inhaled in the end of 2005. How did it begin.. Well, there wasn´t any fullmoon, I didn´t see any trolls sneaking in the shadows or didn´t hear any howling.. There was just an urge to do this, how lame is that! I, Impaler Von Bastard am responsible for starting this heresy.

KMC: Was it obvious to start to play Black Metal?

Hellwind Inferion: First of all, I really had to think the seriousness of this question of yours (in this case it might be a result from deficiency of the definition). Second of all, I find it to be a quite irrelevant question as the form of the music isn't the key here. It is one's truth behind it.

Von Bastard: Yes, who chooses who?

KMC: Ironic question, i know. But couldn't keep it away from this interview.

KMC: Was there any influences in the beginning (bands, artists, movies etc.)?

Von Bastard: To start a band by a certain influence, no. There is a bigger, inner need to do all of this.

KMC: Where was the first Sacrilegious Impalement show held? Any memories?

Von Bastard: It was in our hometown, Lahti. We played with Evil Angel & Exordium. Great show, a couple of hundred people showed up to witness the evening. We were supposed to play our first show in London at that time with G.O.T.H., but they cancelled..

THE BAND

KMC: Where does the name Sacrilegious Impalement come from (what it means in your own words)?

Hellwind: I didn't take any part in naming the band in the past, but to me it strongly reflects the image of godhood, one's truth, my truth, and how to consciously impale your way closer to it, throughout cycles, time and universe. At the same time sacrilegiously penetrating all that is vein and falsely divine.

Von Bastard: That´s pretty good description. Most will ever see those words only in a hostile way, as an aggressive act, like nails or spear on the crucifix, an act in a fame of Vlad Ţepeş or raping Virgin Mary, which is only part of the truth. You should know that there´s many forms of impaling. But yes, there is no denying that there´s a brutal side in us too beside the earlier mentions Hellwind brought up.

KMC: Where does Sacrilegious Impalement found it source to inspiration?

Von Bastard: From everywhere! I keep my channels open.

Hellwind: For me there is only one true source which is neverending: oneself.

KMC: What kind of live act is Sacrilegious Impalement?

Von Bastard: Savage, malevolent, a vortex from Hell !

Hellwind: A vortex from hell, indeed. It's also about movements within, passionate attacks and streaming devotion all in their glory. It's nearly indescribable in a level of already restricted human motions, it really goes beyond. A vortex from hell, as mentioned above, and a portal absorbing you back there. You're always welcomed to enter the night.

KMC: You replaced Marduk in this years Firebox Metal Fest (Rytmikorjaamo, Seinäjoki, Finland). A challenging act to replace. How did the show go? Were you nervous to be the replacement act for Marduk?

Von Bastard: Nervous? No. I saw it as a great challenge & experiment for us. I think we managed to pull a great show, and most of the feedback have been only positive. Of course there was some retarded people who thought it was because of us that Marduk couldn´t make it there. On stage we suffered some technical difficulties, but you know, shit happens! Overall, a great night.

RELEASES

KMC: Your first release 'Total Annihilation' demo came out in 2006 on CD-r and Casette. Casette version was released by Kaos Propaganda Productions, a label run by your former vocalist Kaosbringer, who left band on june 2010. Was this release musically the right beginning for Sacrilegious Impalement, i mean, how do you feel when you listen the demo today?

Von Bastard: Cassette version was done & financied by the band all the way, it was just released out under the name KPP. I haven´t listened to it for a long time, so no opinion. But I am proud of it.

KMC: Your second release was an EP, released by Enucleation Records in 2007. Label responsible for releasing releases from Coffins, Runemagick, Total Fucking Destruction etc. How did you get involved with Enucleation Records?

Von Bastard: Well, actually it was originally released by a french label Blasphemous Underground Productions. Enucleation Records took a lisence of it for the N.America. The label boss, Greg, contacted us for the matter. Nothing mystic about it.

KMC: I noticed a couple of reviews where the writer compared the songs from the EP to acts like Mayhem (De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas area) and old Darkthrone. What's your thoughts about that?

Von Bastard: We have been compared to a tons of bands, like Bolt Thrower, Master's Hammer, Glorior Belli, Dissection, Watain, Black Sabbath, Urn & what else. I don´t necessary see it , but I also don´t always see what the fuck people are thinking anyways. I quess it´s cool, as the versatile of the list of the bands we´ve been compared also reflects how versatile Sacrilegious Impalement is. Do I care? No, it doesn´t affect on what we are doing.

Hellwind: Nothing wrong in comparing things amongst themselves. I mean, these kind of issues are all about opinions and images of one and another, right? Say, we sound like Popeda(!), It doesn't move me.

KMC: 'World in Ashes' was released through Blasphemous Underground Productions in 2008. It was a two song release, released as seven inch. How did you end up doing a two song seven inch insted of recording another EP?

Von Bastard: We were preparing for the full-length at that time and those songs just didn´t fit for the album. I mean those were good enough to be on the album, but they were not in the line with the other songs. Our choises were to ignore those songs or to record them. If we wouldn´t have recorded those songs back then, I strongly doubt that we´d ever record them. I like to focus on the new, more relevant material than hang on the old. We still got some old songs we haven´t recorded, and I think we´ll ever will. It´s not about forgetting your past or anything, but we really are more interested about pushing our selves forward.

Hellwind: Exactly. In other words, we do not let the sands of past times get in our todays bowls of pabulum.

KMC: 'Cultus Nex' was released by Hammer of Hate in 2009. I truly think it's one of the best BM albums made that year (no ass kissing, honest truth). Could you tell me something about the recording sessions? Was it easy? Painful? Hard?

Von Bastard: Thanks. It was an exhausting experience. It´s no secret that when everyone knows what they are doing things usually go well.

Hellwind: Thank you for your honesty. As Von Bastard said, it really was an exhausting experience, both mentally and physically, but at the same time chastening too. For example, I learnt to use an axe for different functions - besides chopping woods and bones, of course.

KMC: What does 'Cultus Nex' mean?

Von Bastard: Honouring for one of the most ultimate.

KMC: Molestor Kadotus did the artwork for the 'Cultus Nex'. I haven't seen the CD version, because i own my version as LP and i really like the art in it. Was the cover art your vision or was it all Molesters vision?

Von Bastard: Fuck, check the booklet out again, what does it say there?

KMC: ...true. Fuck, i should wear my eyeglasses more often.

Von Bastard: Molestor was in charge for the vinyl layout only. Could have done it by myself too, but becouse of lack of time I handed it over to Molestor Kadotus. He did it with a great effort, I´m really pleased about the result. Thanks anyway, glad you like it. Took a whole lot of work.

KMC: How did you end up in Hammer of Hate?

Von Bastard: We had a deal for the full-lenght with BUP too. But the label fukked it up and just run away from the deal. Shows their real dedication towards the business & partners.

Hellwind: Today's rats are more and more resilient with their putrid mouths blabbering filthy nonsense. Not to mention the Internet, with all its forums and channels, which plays very often a powerful tool for transmitting the disease of these ratfinks.)

Von Bastard: I´m truly happy that the label deseaced. Ink in the contract papers doesn´t mean anything for some people. Why be something you´re not? Anyway, we were forced to look for a new label and soon we got offers from labels I´m not going to list here, but many from Europe & couple from U.S.A. Hammer of Hate was the choise of ours.

KMC: Has the label serve you well?

Von Bastard: Yes.

Hellwind: Yes. It's almost impossible for me to point out more trustworthy human being here on Earth than what Molestor Kadotus is. A highly devoted brother of mine.

KMC: As mentioned earlier, Kaosbringer left the band this year. What happened?

Von Bastard: Where from have you heard he´d left the band? I haven´t been told.. The truth is that he was left out from the band, but that´s not a public matter in any way though. I think that time only told that he´s path was not in this band.

KMC: Are you still in contact, friends?

Von Bastard: Yes.

KMC: Hellwind (formely also drums) took the vocalist place and you have a new drummer called Revenant. How is this all working now? Do you feel that this is the line up that will last to the end?

Von Bastard: This is the best line-up by any meters S.I. has ever had, period. The energy this line-up summons is just from beyond. Revenant is a fucking butcher and the flame what Hellwind posses is taking us to a new level. The devotion what glows from everyone is something that can not get wasted. I think this line-up is going to do some serious damage.

Hellwind: A very apposite depiction there, Von Bastard. I really want to see this wholeness to last through cycles. The current line-up we have is truly an armed combat unit with no weak spots.

FUTURE

KMC: You told me that Sacrilegious Impalement is starting to work another album soon. How will it be different comparing to 'Cultus Nex' or older releases?

Von Bastard: Yes, I´ve written 9-10 songs already, and I´m constantly writing on more. The main goal is aimed for a new album. You will witness S.I. evolving into a new level, not forgetting the elements of older S.I. Much darker, colder & hatred maybe, but for sure it will be pure S.I. Only stronger..

Hellwind: Our fiery tongue is licking our womb to ashes and from darkness to even darker we are now reborn.

KMC: Will it also be released by Hammer of Hate?

Von Bastard: Who knows, too early to reveal. We signed with HoH only for the Cultus Nex.

KMC: Is there any new Sacrilegious Impalement shows coming this year? Could you mention a couple?

Von Bastard: When writing this, we have just returned from Oulu where we played with Horna & Winterwolf. You can check few songs & the new line-up here:

KMC: What does Satanism mean to you?

Hellwind: Nothing much nowadays, really, to be honest. Nevertheless, it once opened some doors within me when I was a younger dwelling and those doors remain unlocked.

Von Bastard: To me it still represents one form of rebel spirit for example.

KMC: What does Black Metal mean to you?

Von Bastard: Channeling it the right way, it will store great energies.

Hellwind: It is one of the channels between me and the inner universe. I use it as a tool of acceleration.

KMC: What about the Black Metal bands in Finland today?

Hellwind: Well, I think this is too extensive question to answer with unambiguous thoughts and/or opinions. Let's say there's a bunch of noteworthy bands and then there's all the rest.

KMC: Any favourite finnish BM bands you would like to salute?

Hellwind: Of course all my brothers in Baptism, Behexen, Enochian Crescent, Horna, Archgoat, Anal Blasphemy, Ordinance, Flauros, IC Rex and Vitsaus. Rejoice on top of this abyss with me as we once again drown ourselves into its depths.

Von Bastard: Exordium also deserves more attention.

KMC: What is your opinion about NSBM?

Hellwind: I support it personally.

Von Bastard: Yeah, but Sacrilegious Impalement doesn´t stand as a political group.This question should be in law to be asked about in every fucking interview btw.
